In Field Operating Room
Although donations in the form of medications or supplies are much needed, transport is difficult. Giving money to purchase the medications and supplies is easier to transfer and will have greater buying power in Africa compared to the United States.
Other Ways To Help
- Spread the word! If you can, let your friends, your co-workers (and the boss of course), your schoolmates and teachers know. Talk to them, send them emails, and mention this web site if they wish to contribute or need more information.
- Subscribe! If you are on Twitter, Facebook, and other social networks, please use them to spread the word. Consider linking to my web site, follow me on Twitter, and I hope you’ll check out the Facebook page too.
- Donate Medical/Education Supplies! Click on Other Ways to Help to find out what medical and educational supplies are useful for the doctors over in Cameroon
- Transport! Means of transporting donated medical and educational supplies are difficult, so if you’re traveling to Cameroon consider helping us move some donated goods!

Why Donate
Preparing for Surgery
One can always call up Red Cross, United Way, or other “charity” behemoth, send them few bucks, and feel great about it. But ASCOVIME isn’t an outfit that spends a good chunk of your donations on jets, limos, and parties, or administrative costs. It’s about Dr. Georges Bwelle, a man who gives his time, money, and skills to help and asks for nothing in return. Everyone that’s a part of ASCOVIME is volunteering, so all donations can go to serve those who really need it.
He has done it now for almost 10 years, on a shoestring, with little help. I have been to Africa and volunteered with ASCOVIME and Dr. Bwelle and I know this is a real opportunity to help and make a difference for so many reasons:
- Your entire contribution, 100% of your money, will go to help persons who need it. No waste, no overhead.
- $10 or $20 makes a significant difference in rural villages of Cameroon, not so much here in the US. Donations of $50, $100 or more and the amount of material and medical supplies this can buy can make you a real hero.
- A community of people 5,000 miles away lends a helping hand to people who didn’t ask for it, but who clearly need it.
- And finally, your name will get on the list of contributors
Dr. Georges doesn’t receive any funding or help from his government. Unlike big charities he has no administration or support network. He earns the money by working as a surgeon, scrounges for leftover supplies and medications, and occasionally receives some small donations from friends.
